Yale Day

Last Updated: Jun 09, 2010

Unlike other large Model UN conferences, YMUN is held entirely on Yale’s historic campus. This gives delegates and advisors the opportunity to explore campus and experience a little bit of everyday Yale life, and often, delegates leave our conference with a unique experience of what college life is like. An integral part of this experience is Yale Day, which takes place on the morning of the second day of the conference, and consists of a series of uniquely exciting activities designed to give delegates an insight into what life at Yale is like. Yale Day activities include:

· Open Classes: During Yale Day, a select number of classes will be open to delegates and advisors interested in listening in on a Yale lecture. These lectures are often taught by world-class professors who are eminent scholars in their fields, and will give delegates a sense of what a college lecture is like. The Secretariat tries to find as diverse a range of classes as possible to cater to all delegates’ interests. Past classes that YMUN delegates have attended include Introduction to African Politics, Language, Culture and Identity, and Earth’s Changing Climate.

· Campus Tours: Campus tours are held every hour, on the hour, on the morning of Yale Day, and give delegates a chance to see as much of Yale’s beautiful Gothic campus as possible. These tours start on Old Campus and pass by many Yale landmarks including Woolsey Hall, the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library and the Harkness Memorial Tower. Our campus tours are organized exclusively for YMUN delegates.

· Student Panel: In order to give delegates a better sense what life at Yale is like from the student perspective, YMUN will host a student panel on Yale Day, where Yalies will talk about every aspect of their life at Yale, including academics, extra-curriculars or social life. The event will be in a question-and-answer format, so delegates have the opportunity to ask any questions they wish. The student panel is new to YMUN this year!

· Lunch with Yale Professors: Also new to YMUN this year, is our Yale Day lunch, where delegates and advisors will be able to eat and interact first-hand with distinguished Yale scholars in a relaxed, informal setting. The lunch will take place in Commons Dining Hall, Yale’s main dining hall, where delegates will get a taste of Yale’s dining hall food.

Yale Day provides a broad range of opportunities for delegates a explore and experience Yale, and we hope delegates come away with a good sense of what college life, and life at Yale is like. For further information, please contact USG Services, Vinny Lindoso , at ymun.services@gmail.com.
